Dortmund vs Freiburg – Betting Preview
Borussia Dortmund supporters were in the semi-usual pre-World Cup 2022 position of cursing their team. Following consecutive losses to Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, they were sixth in the standings as the break began.
Their Bundesliga title chances appeared to be dead as they were nine points out of a playoff spot!
In actuality, such a conclusion was hasty.
That is partially due to Dortmund winning three straight games since the Bundesliga season resumed!
Dortmund Preview
Two of those victories, in which BVB defeated Augsburg 4-3 and Mainz 2-1 with a last-second goal from Gio Reyna, were less than convincing. But given that their opponents had just pulled together a five-match winning streak, their 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen last time out was quite impressive.
But Bayern’s erratic play is the major factor that has Dortmund unexpectedly back in the title race. The defending champs have finished their last three games tied at one apiece.
They continue to lead the standings for the time being, although Dortmund (and Freiburg) are three points behind them, and their advantage over Union Berlin in second place has shrunk to just one point.
Freiburg Preview
Last season appeared to be the pinnacle of Christian Streich’s amazing reign as Freiburg’s manager. Despite having one of the lowest budgets in Germany’s top division, the club’s long-time manager, who took over in 2011, guided them to a sixth-place finish in the Bundesliga.
Freiburg had previously been fifth, but last season also saw them relocate into their new stadium, the Europa-Park Stadion, and it was hard to know if Streich could actually lead the team any further.
It appears he might be able to. Freiburg is in sixth place going into the weekend, and if they defeat Borussia Dortmund and other results go their way, it is doubtful but yet possible that they will top the standings!
