So far, Borussia Dortmund’s season has been a mixed bag. Despite this, they are near the top of the Bundesliga table and in a good position in their Champions League group.
The current season of Borussia Dortmund is exciting on several levels. When looking at the problems the club has faced thus far and how these challenges have effected the trajectory of its performance, there are numerous layers to unpack.
Life under Edin Terzi began quite well. BVB set the tone with three competitive wins, scoring five goals and conceding one.
Defensively, the club appeared to be quite strong. Nico Schlotterbeck stepped directly into the starting lineup and did precisely what he was brought in for.
He has been absolutely immaculate so far, showing his worth right from the start of the season.
The game versus Werder Bremen followed. Borussia Dortmund collapsed and surrendered a 2-0 lead, allowing Bremen to score three goals in the last minutes of the game.
While this was an incredible recovery for Bremen, it was a return to the type of performance that characterised Dortmund’s problems under Marco Rose last season.
Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, bounced back, winning three games in a row, the most emphatic of which was a 3-0 triumph over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.
They would subsequently appear to crumble once more against RB Leipzig, losing 3-0.
The performance was additionally humiliating because Leipzig have made a torrid start to the season, and had only just been taken over by former BVB head coach Marco Rose.
The Schwarzgelben would then face Manchester City in the Champions League, where they would put on a brave performance until the final ten minutes.
